ATVs are compact, powerful, fun machines that make any off-roading ride an adventure. Mudding is one of the most popular uses for them, but mud can be harmful to the machine itself, among other issues. We here at East Bay Motorsports want to help your next mudding run stay fun, so we’ve put together some essential mudding accessories for you and your ATV. Mudding Clothes

No matter how adventurous you plan to get, safety should always be your number one priority. That starts with your outfit, so start with a well-fitted, full-coverage helmet. Mud itself won’t harm your head much, but rocks and other hard debris hiding under the surface might. Verify that it’s crash-test certified so you know you’ll be protected. If full-face isn’t an option, make sure you wear comfortable and sturdy goggles.

Durably clothing is also a must, meaning long-sleeved shirts and long pants. Gloves can also be useful to stay in control and protect your hands, and sturdy boots that go above your ankle can keep your feet and ankles intact.

Snorkel Kits

Your ATV is rugged, but it might need a little extra protection as well. The biggest risk to muddings is moisture finding its way into your exhaust system, or getting into your engine through some other route. Depending on when and where you ride, you might even find half your ATV submerged at times, and there’s no way water isn’t getting where it shouldn’t, then. That’s a problem—water in your engine compartment can kill your ATV entirely.

A snorkel kit can prevent this, and it does pretty much what it sounds like—it keeps your engine breathing when your ATV is damp. The kit provides extended air intakes, extended CVT inlets, and outlet exhausts for your ATV to keep everything dry that needs to be.

Mud Tires

Your standard ATV tires can do a lot, but if mudding is your goal, mud tires might be a worthy investment. They provide enhanced traction in loose, damp environments, and they’re also larger and more buoyant to prevent sinkage. Well-spaced lugs help grip the mud even better, but don’t drive these tires on hard-packed dirt or pavement, since that can damage the lugs.

Mudguard Kits

These are handy additions to your snorkeled-up ATV. They act a lot like mud flaps on larger vehicles with plastic fender extensions to reduce spray and improve your vehicle’s mud protection. They’re especially useful if you’re riding in a group and don’t want to soak the people around and behind you.
