Dirt biking is an exciting sport, but there are always risks. Falls happen every day, and you need to be ready to minimize potential injuries should the worst happen. We here at East Bay Motorsports want all our customers to enjoy a safe, fun time no matter where they ride. That’s why we’ve created this guide to recovering from a dirt bike fall.

Protect Your Head And Limbs

Always prioritize keeping your head safe during a dirt bike fall. If the front of your head is at risk of hitting the ground, turn your face to the side. If the back of your head is at risk, tuck in your chin. Try to resist your instinct to break your fall using your hands. Even if you fall on soft dirt, this can result in some serious injuries to your hands or wrists. Instead, you should tuck in your limbs and adjust things so that you fall onto a part that is more cushioned, like your shoulders.

What To Do After the Fall

What you should do in the immediate aftermath of a dirt bike fall depends upon how badly you are injured. If you escape with minimal injuries and want to continue riding, feel free to hop back on your dirt bike. If you’re too hurt to continue but can still move, get off the trail immediately. This will prevent further injuries caused by other riders colliding with you or needing to swerve to avoid you. Take your dirt bike with you if possible, but prioritize your own safety. If things are so bad you can’t move, keep your helmet on and try to signal your distress to others. If you’re riding with others, have a predetermined signal to signify to others that you are in need of help.
