Motorsports Vehicle Parts Replacement Guide
Motorsports vehicles are quite powerful and durable, but even the toughest model will eventually need some of its parts replaced. Since different parts have different guidelines for when to replace, we've broken everything down to make it a bit simpler. Tires
As the first line of defense between your vehicle and the road, the tires tend to wear out over time. It's important to check regularly that the depth of the tread is at least 2 mm. You can typically switch your tires out for new ones every five years or so, assuming an average amount of riding.
Brake Pads
Brake pads are the parts that press against the rotors to slow your motorsports vehicle down and bring it to a stop. For obvious reasons, they are extremely important to keep in good condition. There's no default time frame for how often to replace them, but they should be checked regularly to make sure they aren't corroding, and are above 2 mm thick. If they're showing signs of corrosion, or are thinner than 2 mm, it's time to replace them.
Battery
Motorsports vehicle batteries are usually pretty resilient, but they still should be switched out for new ones roughly every two to three years. Additionally, whenever you get an oil change, you can make a point to have the mechanic check the condition of your battery as well. In most cases, they will be willing to take a look at it completely free of charge.
Spark Plugs
For your vehicle's spark plugs, the indicators for replacement include wide gaps and/or erosion in the center wire or ground electrode. Check for these things regularly, but on average, your spark plugs should last you for around 30,000 - 50,000 miles of riding.
Chains, Belts, and Drive Shafts
Your motorsports vehicle's chain, belts, and driveshaft all tend to last for quite a long time, typically needing to be replaced after 50,000 miles. As long as you take good care of your vehicle and get oil changes regularly, you shouldn't need to worry about these parts any sooner than that.
Keep in mind, the better care you take of your vheicle, the longer most of its parts will last. If you need help with motorsports vehicle parts, pay us a visit at East Bay Motorsports in Hayward, CA. We're here to serve powersports enthusiasts throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
